The Past Couple Months Update {16/08/14}

It’s been quiet around here on the blog!

While Sally and the rest of her gang has been busy busy busy making sure seeds get planted, plants get tended, weeds get pulled and produce gets picked, put for sale or preserved, I, Kate, the writer of the blog, have been moving and setting up a new home. We bought a house and got possesion at the end of May (Hence the last blog post being the end of May…) and I’m finally getting caught up on things, like writing on this blog!

Right now the big thing we want y’all knowing, is that preserving season is upon us! If you’re wanting to freeze, can, dry or otherwise preserve this season’s bounty, now is the time to buy it at the Tuesday or Saturday Market, the Farm Stand (Open daily 10-5:30) or call/email us 250-537-4442/

What is there available you ask? Well, while I can’t promise what will be available tomorrow, or next week, I can give you a good idea of various ‘popular to preserve’ produce items we have growing! (As well as some ideas on how to preserve it!

So go forth fellow Salt Spring Preservers! Fill your larders! Tis the Season!

And I hope you’re out there picking blackberries for your freezer too…

Produce Box Program Starting June

**Full for June, please contact us if you would like to be on the waiting list for July**

Northend Farm is starting a Produce Box Program in June! We’re very excited about this and can’t wait to get going! It’s designed a little differently than a typical CSA, and we hope you’ll enjoy this opportunity.

ferrets 063

+Each ‘Run’ will be 4 weeks long. This means you won’t have to commit or pay for a long CSA, but still get the benefits of a produce box. We hope to continuously do these until fall, starting June.

+$100 total, $25 deposit will be required no later than a week before the start date with remaining $75 due at first pick up.

+Boxes will always be approximately 10-15% higher value than you pay for.

+Participants in the Produce Box program will get a special 10% off discount card on produce in the markets.

+Boxes will always be seasonally grown produce from Northend Farm.

+You will be required to pick up your box every Wednesday for the time frame you have paid for, within a certain time frame. (To be determined)

The First Produce Box will start Wednesday, June 4th and end June 25th. There are a limited number of spots available and it will be first come, first serve, $25 deposit required to hold your spot.

Now…what will be in your box?! Here is an example of what is growing in June, and what might be in your box;

-Bag of Sally’s Mixed Salad Greens

-Pint of Cherry Tomatoes

-1/2 pound Broccoli

-One Bunch Carrots

-One Bunch Beets

-1/2 lb Garlic Scapes

-Small Bouquet of Basil

-One Bundle Gai Lan (Here’s Gai Lan)

Actual boxes may vary, although everyones will be relatively the same each week. Other produce that will be ripening/harvesting in June also include;

Strawberries, Cilantro, Garlic, Kale, Green Onions, Chard and many more!

Suffice to say there won’t be a lack of variety!

For more details, or to put a deposit on a box, please use this easy contact box OR e-mail Northend farm; OR call 250 537 6930.

Thank-you for your interest and we look forward to seeing you around the farm!
